New Zealand: Re-opening of borders to vaccinated travellers from October (Update)

Datum: 3. Februar 2022 07:58

Update (4 February): From July, New Zealand plans to also allow travellers from visa-waver countries, including Germany, Switzerland and Austria, to enter the country.

As was announced by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Thursday (3 February), New Zealand will re-open its borders to international visitors from October 2022 after more than two years of being largely shut due to the pandemic. Incoming travellers must be fully vaccinated, but it has yet to be determined whether they will also be required to self-isolate.

As early as 28 February, vaccinated New Zealanders currently in Australia will be allowed to re-enter the country. From 14 March, this regulation will be extended to New Zealand nationals who want to return home from other parts of the world. In addition, travellers on a working holiday scheme will also be allowed back into the country from that date. In April and July, international students and travellers arriving on Accredited Employer Work Visas will then be permitted to enter New Zealand.

In most cases, travellers will be subject to 10 days of self-isolation and rapid tests that need to be taken on arrival and on day 5 or 6.
